HARIDWAR: Police in Haridwar have been making a desperate attempt to trace the parents of a five-year-old physically challenged boy, who was found in a dustbin along the Ganga ghat at Har ki Pauri here on Monday.
The police were told by the boy that his name was Manjit and he was from Buwadikheda village in Haryana's Bhiwani district.
Police inspector Mohan Singh told TOI, "Manjit said his father's name was Naresh.
A police team reached Buwadikheda village but could not find anyone called Naresh nor did the residents know of any boy called Manjit."
According to the inspector, some rag pickers, who were working near the clock tower at Har ki Pauri, found Manjit on Monday from a garbage drum after they heard his cries. They handed Manjit over to the police, who sent him to a child shelter in Dehradun. The police initially thought Manjit was eight-years-old. But on medical examination, he was found to be about five, they said. Manjit can't walk nor can he use his right arm.
